Julian Talbot
Julian is the Managing Director, and founder of SERT Pty Ltd.
Julian's experience includes 35 years of international consulting in various sectors, such as oil and gas, mining, exploration, government, and non-profit. He has expertise in enterprise risk management (ERM) training, workshops, risk assessment, security risk management, strategic planning, cybersecurity, and COVID-19 management.
He has worked with clients such as the United Nations, the Australian Department of Defence, the Department of Finance, and Woodside Energy Ltd. Julian's experience also includes developing security guarding procurement strategies, functional specifications, and accreditation preparation for security certification programs.
He has lived and worked on five continents and has 35 years of international management and leadership experience, including over 20 years at Director and C- Suite levels in the commercial, government, and not-for-profit sectors.
Julian holds a Master's of Risk Management and is a Certified Information Systems Security Professional. He is also a recipient of the Australian Security Medal (ASM), a Registered Security Professional (RegSepP), a Fellow of the Institute of Strategic Risk Management (F.ISRM), and a Fellow of the Risk Management Institution of Australasia (RMIA).

Miles Jakeman

Miles also has a Bachelor of Science degree from UNSW, where he majored in Management and Geography. Miles also has an AICD Advanced Diploma in Mastering the Boardroom and is a Registered Security Professional. As co-author of the Security Risk Management Body Of Knowledge (SRMBOK) and a Registered Security Professional, Miles is a highly skilled and qualified expert in the field of security and risk management.
Chris Oxley
Chris is a senior consultant with over 25 years of experience in project delivery and risk management, with proven success in project planning, stakeholder management, and project governance.
Chris has applied risk management principles in analyzing business improvement initiatives and delivery of projects for the private sector and Australian Government clients, including Defence, Australia’s Parliament House, the Australian Trade Commission, Australian Taxation Office, Australian Federal Police, Department of Employment and Workplace Relations, Department of Finance, Australian Customs Service and many more.

Martin Smith
Martin, a member of our consulting staff, has gained his professional experience through serving for 21 years in the Department of Defence, with 14 of those years being in the Australian Public Service. During his tenure, he held executive-level roles across policy, program, and service delivery within government.

Martin has dedicated a majority of his work managing security outcomes within the Defence acquisition and sustainment environment throughout the entire Capability life-cycle. Within this environment, Martin provided subject matter expertise and played a key role in leading a team to develop and implement a range of holistic approaches and strategies aimed at safeguarding current and future capabilities throughout Defence and the Defence Industry.

These strategies were directed at ensuring that sensitive information and critical technology were protected against unauthorised access, interference, or theft. Through his leadership, he helped to establish a culture of security awareness and compliance that was integral to the success of these methodologies. As a result of his efforts, the Chief Executive Officer for the Defence Materiel Organisation recognised him with an award for significantly contributing to the organisation's reputation as a leader in security across Defence.

His portfolio of work also includes a broad range of security activities, such as the development of whole-of-Defence security policy, risk management, information management, and assessment of capability projects.

In addition to his public service career, Martin currently provides security advisory services exclusively to the Defence Industry in the private sector, thereby offering a unique perspective of both government and the private sector/industry.
Paul Longley
Paul’s unique value proposition is a combination of long-term professional protective security experience combined with cyber security knowledge and skills, which have been successfully applied to achieve excellent results for a range of Australian Government and private sector clients.
Paul is well able to determine a client’s business needs through an analytical and objectives-driven approach to identify pre-sales opportunities and initiatives. Highly professionally and academically qualified, as well as having demonstrated practical skills and capabilities across a range of competencies, including workplace training and development.
In his commercial industry experience Paul was responsible for developing business plans and strategies, including market research projects, to develop new initiatives for business as well as developing and managing the development of successful responses to quotations, bids and other submissions including Australian Government Panel membership.
Paul has a deep experience with the Australian Government and the Australian Public Service environment, and as a former Naval Officer (Lieutenant-Commander) and at the APS Executive Director (EL2) Level managing teams of highly professional specialists, often in demanding roles.
Matthew Curtis
Matthew is a multi-disciplinary strategic consultant. Following 20 years in the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) in a range of offshore and onshore strategic, management, and operational roles, Matthew left the public sector and, for the past 20 years, has consulted in strategic and national security, governance and risk, emergency management, and business continuity management.
His experience includes as partner/director of an SME to senior management in global consulting firms and founder. He has led teams in diplomacy, national security, policy development and implementation, legal and litigation matters, industry regulation, and negotiation. Stewart Hayes
Stewart is an experienced and highly motivated risk management and cyber/physical security expert with an extensive background in security advisory and operational information security management,
He has played a leading role in the cyber security discipline in well-recognized public, private and commercial operations in Australia and internationally, both as a senior manager and leader of delivery programs.
Stewart has led numerous projects and worked across a diverse functional, operational, and governance client base servicing telecoms, finance, defense, government, health, and oil and gas sectors both regionally and globally.
He has been engaged by clients both as a Security and Compliance Manager at the Executive Level to ensure their organizations’ security services met compliance, governance, and, importantly, business objectives and also at the operational level to define and deliver security strategy, architecture, and compliant services. This includes CPS 234, ASD Essential 8 (ASD37), ISO 27k, and NIST CSF compliance programs.
Brett McCall
Brett McCall is a highly experienced Security and Emergency Management Risk Specialist with over 40 years of experience in the security risk management industry. He has delivered and managed over 20 million security man-hours across multiple Australian jurisdictions and has worked across a broad range of industry sectors, including facilities management, transport, warehousing and logistics, state and tertiary education, critical and important infrastructure, retail, major events, and other places of mass gatherings.
Brett is a highly experienced trainer and coach with strong knowledge of current and emerging security technologies. He has extensive experience identifying risk and developing detailed Security, Risk, and Operational Plans.

Brett has held numerous senior operational, business leadership, and consulting roles, including with Berry Street, the Department of Health (VIC), and Riskworks Group. He has worked with clients regarding security and emergency preparedness needs, conducted training for operational personnel, facilitated the development and delivery of security and emergency management procedures, and provided expertise relating to emerging technologies in security, safety, and emergency management.
Dave Van Lambaart
David is a senior security risk management consultant with over 28 years of experience in defining, implementing, and managing an effective security infrastructure. He is an accredited ISO-31000 Risk Management Professional and a recognized subject matter expert in physical and operational security. His direct experience across a diverse range of complex client engagements and advisory projects includes all levels of government, Commonwealth, and State agencies, including police, education, and health,
David brings diverse physical and operational security insight gained directly within Mining [Open Cut and Underground], Gas and Oil, Education, Healthcare, Multi-level Multi tenanted office accommodation, and Major Events Management.
As an ISO-31000 Risk Management Professional, he brings a definitive and methodical approach to the application of risk management principles in an operational setting and has extended this approach when defining, implementing, and managing an effective security infrastructure compliant with business needs, applicable legislation, and recognized good practice.
